“New” Emphasis

Not that it hasn’t taken place over the past several years, but the emphasis of this blog will be the Smalltalk language and environment. I build apps in Cuis or Squeak, depending on which is the best fit.

I’ve transitioned other musings to another blog at https://mastodon.social/@jaypeach53, where I not only talk about programming related topics, but also my main endeavors, music and art. Covid pretty much trashed my programming career as, 80-85% of my contacts got furloughed or involuntarily retired.

Stack Overflow

I know, Stack Overflow is following the rest of the lemmings over the AI cliff, but sometimes newbies need to ask a non-distro question. If you’ve settled on a distro, then the mailing lists are the best place to ask your questions, as the pool of answerers is rather thin on Stack Overflow, probably less than 10 people. And, I think, only 5 questions asked in all of 2025.

Tools Update

I said earlier that Cuis was becoming my go-to Smalltalk environment. Well, that’s still mostly true, but I still use Squeak frequently. And Pharo has been relegated to pariah status. It was always a pain to modify Pharo code because the latest version trashed your code.

So, I guess you’d say this is just a reiteration of my previous post, but yes, I’ve really soured big time on Pharo.
